A string light style of umbrella light generally has the strings attached to the eight underside ribs of the umbrella highlighting the framework.Some manufactures of umbrellas actually have the lights built into the ribs which eliminates any clips or other methods for holding the lights to the umbrella.This style of patio lights give off a nice warm relaxing glow.Great for an evening of sitting around and visiting with friends and family.

A lamp style of umbrella light is better for when you would like a little more light.If you are planning on playing a game or are going to be doing some reading,a lamp style would be the way to go.Instead of being attached to the ribs of the umbrella,these lights are clustered in a housing of some type that wraps around the center pole.A big advantage of this kind of light is that it can be adjusted down to give you more light or up to give you less.

An option to the lamp style is umbrella globe lights.While They are similar to a lamp style,a globe type has exactly that, globes.A little more decorative but still very similar.

Something to consider is using both a string light type and a lamp type for the best of both worlds.That way you can have a nice mellow glow or something a bit brighter when you need it.

With the variety of colors of string lights and in particular patio umbrella lights available the hardest part might be deciding which to choose so that you can have your patio umbrella lit.
